TOWER LADDER GOES TO WORK ON ROOM AND CONTENTS IN EAST DONEGAL

At 11:10 the 3555 Fire Box was dispatched in the Maytown East Donegal Township Fire (7-9) first due.  Fire reported 343 Rivermoor Drive, a building fire.  Tower Ladder from 8-1 enroute with five with FF Veach in the seat.  LCWC advising reports of a bathroom on fire.  Police department on the scene with working fire building being evacuated.  Engine 7-9-2 on the scene setting up the East Donegal Command.  8-1 Tower Ladder arrived and assisted crews on scene with ventilation and overhaul.  Good work by first in companies held the fire to building of origin with minimal extension. 

Earlier in the day the 8-1 Engine ran the spill control in the first due.

DEPARTMENTS RANGER GOES TO WORK ON YORK COUNTY WOODS FIRE

At 14:03 Hellam Township Fire Units were dispatched to area of Codorus Furnace Road and River Farm Road in York County for a reported woods fire.  Chief 41 (SMELTZER) in the area reporting large area on fire in hard to reach area of a mountain side.  Chief 41 established the Hellam Township Command and requested the 8-1 Engine and Polaris Ranger ATV to assist with the fire.  Engine and ATV enroute with 6 under the direction Deputy Chief Hershey.  Units arrived on the he scene and assisted Hellam Township units with extinguishing the fire. 

While on the brush fire, the Columbia No. 1 Fire Department had a second call in its area for the reported spill control in the first due on Third St.  The engine from he Consolidated Fire Company (8-7) handled the assignment.  Earlier in the day the departments Tower Ladder responded twice to assist West Hempfield Fire (7-6) with a reported high Occupancy AFA.   Team had a total of four runs for the day.

TOWER LADDER ARRIVES WITH FIRE SHOWING IN THE WASHINGTON BORO FIRE FIRST DUE

At 03:18 Fire Box 7-8-4 was dispatched in the Washington Boro Fire Company (7-8) first due.  Fire reported on Elizabeth Street in Washington Boro, a dwelling fire.  Chief 8-4 on the scene reporting a well involved structure with exposures.  Tower Ladder 8-1 en route with six with Assistant Chief Dejesus in the seat.  Chief 7-8 (GRAHAM) on the scene requesting working fire dispatch.8-1 Truck arrived and was instructed to go in service with elevated streams on the Delta side.  During the incident Command 7-8 requested additional Engine for manpower.  8-1 Engine enroute with five with Chief Ryno in the seat.  8-1 Engine arrived and was instructed to work with Deputy Chief Goe from station 7-8 on the delta side with overhaul.  Good work by the first arriving companies held the fire to the original fire building with minimal extension. 

After returning to the Boro of Columbia, the Tower Ladder from 8-1 was due on the Mountville Fire (7-15) High Occupancy AFA assignment on Abel Drive.  Accidental activation per Engine 7-15-1 on the scene, placing the assignment available.

ENGINE ASSISTS WITH FILL SITE ON HIGHVILLE FIRE

Firefighters from the Columbia No. 1 Fire Department ran a total of eight responses over the holiday weekend.  On Saturday afternoon the department was alerted to respond to Manor Township to assist the Highville Fire Company (6-2) on the working woods fire.  The fire which had consumed a number of acres over the last few days, was still burning.  The 8-1 Engine was due to assist with a fill site.  Engine responded with seven.  8-1 Engine assumed the fill site for eight hours on Saturday afternoon till being released by the 6-2 Command. 

Department firefighters also responded to following over the weekend.

TOWER LADDER GOES TO WORK WITH HIGHVILLE FIRE

At 23:08 Fire Box 2922 was dispatched in Highville Fire Company (6-2) first due.  Fire reported 37 Chestnut Grove Road, in Manor Township reported to be a dairy barn.  Chief 6-2-1 ( C.DITZLER) on the scene with a well involved barn.  Tower Ladder from 8-1 enroute with six with Assistant Chief Dejesus in the seat.  Chief 6-2 (M.DITZLER) on the scene with the 6-2 Command.  While enroute 8-1 Tower Ladder given instructions to go in service with elevated streams on the Alpha/Delta corner on arrival.  Tower Ladder arrived and went into service then was directed to reposition to protect exposures.  Crews worked the scene till approximately 03:00. 

Good work by all companies involved held the fire to the original fire building with minimal extension.

WATER RESCUE TRAINING WITH FDMJ

Tonight eight members of the departments water emergency team traveled to Mount Joy to train with the members of FDIC on water rescue.  Squad  and Boats from the department under the direction of Chief Ry no moved to the Fire Department Mount Joy station for basic water rescue training.  FF Felus went over basic water rescue tools and techniques including ice rescue, equipmtnet, flooded vehicles and how first arriving companies can assist prior to the arrival of the water rescue company.  Captain Nye then followed  by addressing different equipment the Columbia No. 1 Fire Department has available. 

Special thanks to Assistant Chief Bradley for inviting the team to participate in Monday training with the FDMJ firefighters.  After returning from Mount Joy the 8-1  Engine was due on the 3861 Box in the first due for a spill control on Locust St.  8-1 Engine en route with 7.

THREE RUNS AND SOME BOAT TRAINING

Firefighters from the Columbia No. 1 Fire Department had another steady day of runs today running two in the Borough and one assist to West Hempfield Fire (7-6).  Day started with the High Occupancy AFA on the Consolidated Fire (8-7) box alarm.  8-1 Truck enroute with 4.  Units on the scene at the Columbia High School with a two story educational facility normal conditions.  Workers set the alarm off, units available.

Within two hours of returning the 8-1 Engine was due in the 8-1 first due for the reported high occupancy AFA.  Engine enroute with 5.  Units on the scene at St. Peters Apartments with a ten story high rise, normal conditions investigating.  Food on the stove on floor ten needing minimal ventilation no services needed from the 8-1 Engine. 

At 16:16 the environmental rescue assignment was dispatched in the area of the railroad tracks at the end of Front St.  Reported to be two individuals who fell a distance from the Chiques Rock area.  Chief 8-1-1 (DEJESUS) in the area advising this is a West Hempfield call, setting up the 7-6 command till there arrival.  8-1 Engine with seven.   Two individuals who fell from approximately 50-60 feet now in the care of EMS brought to the Railroad Yards, no services needed from the 8-1 Engine. 

Later in the day 10 firefighters from the the department under the direction of FF Felus used the time to do some boat training on the River.  Thanks to all that attended.

SIMULTANEOUS FIRES FOR THE ENGINE AND TOWER

At 11:19 the first of two working fires was dispatched for the Columbia No. 1 Fire Department.  Fire reported in the 900 Blk of Garfield Road in Rapho Township on the FDMJ (7-5) 3412 Fire Box.  Reported barn on fire.  8-1 Tower Ladder enroute with five with FF Falcon in the seat.  Chief 7-5 (HESS) on the scene reporting working fire in a shop type building, not a barn.  Tower Ladder from 8-1 arrived and assisted FDMJ crews with roof work and overhaul. 

At 11:38 while the Tower Ladder worked the FDMJ building fire, the 8-1 Engine was dispatched as part of the Columbia Borough dwelling assignment in the Susquehanna Fire Company  (8-4) first due.  Fire reported 601 Manor St. a kitchen fire.  8-1 Engine enroute OFC.  Chief 8 (MENTZER) on the scene reporting working fire, requesting the assignment filled with the working fire dispatch.  Small fire in kitchen fire with no extension units available with in 20 minutes.  

After returning the 8-1 Engine responded in the first due for the medical assist.

SATURDAY BRINGS ANOTHER FOUR RUNS

Firefighters from the Columbia No. 1 Fire Department ran another four runs today starting at 00:23 with the transfer to York Township Fire Department.  After returning the 8-1 Engine responded into the first due for the alarm system malfunction at 341 Chestnut St. 

At 17:43 the 8-1 Tower Ladder with six with Assistant Chief Dejesus in the seat responded with FDMJ for the reported residential AFA at 450 Pinkerton Road.  8-1 Tower Ladder responded as second due special service due to extended ETA of Truck 7-5 which was operating on another incident in Rheems.  FDMJ units on the scene with normal conditions, having the 8-1 Tower Ladder proceed in non emergency.  Units arrived to find normal conditions, with 7-5 Command placing Tower available after investigating the residence.
 
At 19:36 the 8-1 Engine was dispatched on the 3862 Investigation assignment in the 8-1 first due.  Reported rail tank car leaking an unknown substance in the area of Rt. 441 & Plane St.  8-1 Engine enroute with 7 with Assistant Chief Dejesus in the seat.  Chief 8-1 (RYNO) on the scene with the Columbia Borough Command requesting haz-mat duty officer be notified.  Upon investigation found normal venting of carbon dioxide from a rail car, no fire department services required, units available.

Just after midnight York County 911 advised Lancaster County Wide Communications to transfer the Tower Ladder from 8-1 to York Township while the Tower Ladder from 19 worked a job with fire showing in Dallastown York County.  8-1 Tower Ladder enroute with six.  Tower Ladder stood by in York Township till approximately 03:30.  After returning the 8-1 Engine was due for the alarm bells in the first due.

At 17:08 the Water Emergency Team from the Columbia No. 1 Fire Department was dispatched as part of the Washington Boro Fire Company  (7-8) water emergency response.  Deputy 7-8 (GOE) with the Susquehanna River Command.  Squad and Boat from 8-1 requested to assist with RIT on the Susquehanna River while rescues boats searched for a suicidal male.  8-1 Squad and Boats enroute with six with Lt. Kaufman in the seat.  Squad and Boats arrived and provided RIT for units on the scene.  During the water rescue response, the 8-1 Engine was due on the Rt. 30 bypass in the 8-1 Fire first due for the reported overturned vehicle.  8-1 Engine enroute with six.  Engine 8-1 arrived and stood-by while tow companies removed an overturned vehicle towing a boat.

THREE MORE FOR SUNDAY

After a no sleep Friday evening the Columbia No. 1 Fire Department members ran three more responses for the weekend.  At 01:35 on Sunday morning the Departments Water Emergency Team was due on the Washington Boro Fire (7-8) water emergency incident.  Reported to be an injured civilian on an island on the Susquehanna River, EMS needing assistance with removal.  Squad 8-1 and Boat 8-1-1 responded to Columbia River Park and stood by for the incident. 

At 06:27 the 8-1 Tower Ladder was back on the road this time to Hellam Township York County for the reported High Occupancy AFA on the 21 Fire Box Alarm.  Tower Ladder from 8-1 enroute with five with Assistant Chief Dejesus in the seat.  Incident reported on the west end of the Township on Shoe House Road.  Tower Ladder arrived and assisted Hellam Township Crews with the investigation. 

At 13:49 the last response for the weekend was dispatched.  Tower Ladder enroute with six with Assistant Chief Dejesus in the seat  to the commercial AFA in the Consolidated Fire (8-7) first due.  Units arrived and reported false alarm, fire department available.

TOWER LADDER RUNS FOUR ON THE 11-7 TOUR

The 11-7 Duty Crew Friday evening into Saturday ran four responses starting at 23:41 when the Tower Ladder from the Station was due on the Wrightsville Fire (41-01 Box) for the commercial AFA.  Incident reported 127 North Front St. in Wrightsville Borough.  8-1 Tower en route with six with Chief Ryno in the seat.  Crews arrived and assisted the Hellam Township crews with the investigation.  Within an hour after returning the Tower responded a second time to the Front St. location for a reactivation. 
At 02:41 the third of four response was dispatched for the 8-1 Tower Ladder.  Incident reported to be an apartment building fire at Oak Hollow Apartments in West Hempfield Township on the 7-6 Box Alarm Assignment.  Caller reporting they are able to see smoke and fire in the apartment.  8-1 Tower Ladder enroute with six with Chief Ryno in the seat.  Lt. 7-6-2 on the scene with command, reporting a bag of cloths on fire reported out requesting ventilation.  Incident under control at 03:06. 

After a couple more hours of sleep the 8-1 Tower Ladder was back on the road this time to Hellam Township York County to assist  Hellam Fire (21) for the reported aircraft in distress.  8-1 Tower Ladder enroute with six with Assistant Chief Dejesus in the seat.  Reported to be a hot air balloon hung up in some trees.  Enroute the 21 Command (DUBE) recalled the assignment. 

Later in the day the Team 8-1 members continued with the NIMS classes held at the station.

DEPARTMENT TRIPLE PULLS FOR MARIETTA SEARCH DETAIL

At 16:22 the Water Emergency Team from the Columbia No. 1 Fire Department was dispatched to assist Marietta Fire (7-10) with a reported missing person near the Susquehanna River. Missing person reported to be a 53 YO caucasian male with suicidal thoughts. Boat 8-1-2 (Inflatable)and Squad 8-1-1 enroute with four with FF Anderson as acting OIC. Units arrived and met with command 7-10 who requested Boat 8-1 serve as RIT boat for incident. During incident Chief 7-10 (ORE) requested the Polaris Ranger ATV from the Columbia No. 1 Fire Department to assist with the search. Squad 8-1-2 with Ranger 8-1 enroute with three. As darkness neared and the information gathered was more conclusive there was a missing person, the Lancaster County Rescue Taskforce 36 was requested to assist. Engine 8-1-1 enroute with two taskforce members. Taskforce arrived and worked with the 7-10 Operations (EBERSOLE) on setting up a grid search. At approximately 21:22 the Ranger from 8-1 with Squad Leader Hess and Rescue Taskforce Squad 2 located the individual in a heavily wooded area along the Susquehanna River. EMS was provided to the patient as he was moved to an awaiting EMS unit. Columbia No. 1 Fire Department units and Lancaster County Rescue Taskforce placed available. Good coordinated effort by Marietta Fire (7-10), mutual aide companies and the Lancaster County Rescue Taskforce (36) located the individual and provided EMS to the person with no fire department injuries. 

Earlier in the day the 8-1 Tower Ladder moved to York Township (Station 19) for the Truck Company transfer. Tower Ladder 8-1 enroute with six for the standby.
